If you cannot explain to the user why you need it, remove it. Non-urgent questions can be deferred: for example, collect a phone number after the first contact, not before. NN\/G reduced one of its own forms from six fields down to two, and every field removed lifts the completion rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-automate\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Automate\"><\/span>Automate<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minimize manual typing by using data you already have or can infer. Prefill known details for returning users, and derive values instead of asking for them: a postal code can populate the province and district automatically. The less a customer has to type, the further they get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-simplify\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Simplify\"><\/span>Simplify<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the fields that remain, reduce effort with smart defaults, flexible formatting, and mobile-friendly input. Accept phone numbers with or without spaces, use input masks, and let mobile users tap the right keyboard. Ask only for what you truly need right now; every removed field raises conversion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place labels above or beside fields, clearly grouped, so the eye never has to guess which label belongs to which input.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a single-column layout. Multiple columns break the natural top-to-bottom flow (short related fields like province and district can share a row).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow a logical order. Sequence fields the way users expect, and test that the Tab key moves through them correctly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid placeholder text as a label replacement. It disappears on click and causes errors, so keep labels always visible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Match the input to the data. Use radio buttons for 2-3 choices instead of a dropdown, and size fields to the expected input (99.9% of city names fit within 19 characters).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clearly mark required versus optional fields, and keep optional fields to a minimum so users never have to guess.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain formatting up front. State password or phone rules before submission, not through error messages afterward.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write visible, specific error messages. An F&amp;B or wellness brand can replace a long reservation form with a single-column layout and tap-friendly date and time pickers, capturing bookings that would otherwise be abandoned on mobile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For an education center, an enrolment form with clear required-field markers and a plain-language error message such as \u201cPlease enter a valid phone number\u201d prevents the drop-offs that happen when parents hit a confusing wall.
